Operationalizing ASEAN Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women

The National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women (NCRFW) hosted the regional workshop to operationalize the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women (DEVAW) in the ASEAN Region.

DEVAW was adopted and signed by ASEAN foreign ministers during the 37th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (AMM) held in June 2004 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The declaration strengthens “regional cooperation, collaboration and coordination for the purpose of eliminating violence against women in the region, either individually or collectively (NCRFW, 21 November 2005)."

Workshop areas of concern included data collection and sharing, research and information dissemination, service delivery to victims, response to offenders, women’s political and economic empowerment, gender mainstreaming, law reform and government –civil society cooperation.

The workshop was held on 21 November 2005 at the New World Hotel, Makati City, Philippines and gathered 33 delegates from government organizations in ASEAN member countries. Information on workshop outputs can be requested from the NCRFW through email: edo@ncrfw.gov.ph.
