Asia-Pacific Regional Cooperation Workshop in Beijing
A number of Working Group personalities
presented papers at the 13th Annual Workshop of the Framework
on Regional Cooperation for the Promotion and Protection
of Human Rights in the Asia-Pacific Region, held from 30
August to 02 September 2005 in Beijing, China.
Working Group Co-Chair Vitit Muntarbhorn presented his
paper, “In Search of the Rights Track: Evolving a
Regional Framework for the Promotion and Protection of Human
Rights in the Asia-Pacific Region.” While Working
Group Secretary-General Carlos P. Medina talked about the
current state of human rights in Asia-Pacific and identified
possible steps to review current human rights initiatives.
Dr. Purificacion Quisumbing, chair of the Philippine Commission
on Human Rights and member of the Philippine Working Group,
also reported on last November's highlights of the sub-regional
workshop for judges and lawyers on the justiciability of
economic, social and cultural rights in Southeast Asia held
in Manila.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and
the Government of the People’s Republic of China jointly
organized the 13th Annual Workshop.
